Venus, the goddess of beauty; in today’s society, a young, tall, slim and photogenic woman, possibly superficial, often anorexic. With subtle humour and self-irony, the Czech choreographer Kristýna Lhotáková – twenty-six years old, and yet already applauded in the best European theatres and festivals – embodies in her irresistible and fascinating dance the ideal of contemporary beauty, as presented by media and fashion shows. Both partner and antagonist, the double bass played live on stage by Ladislav Soukup ‘courts’ this modern Venus and watches her posing and dancing for him, half naked in her tiny bikini swimsuit. “Masterfully done, fresh, straight-forward” (Theatre Journal), "Venus with the Rubic’s Cube" received the first place at the Fringe Festival of Contemporary Arts (Perth, Australia).
