running time 45 mins.

The outcome of an entirely Icelandic collaboration between the choreographer Erna Ómarsdóttir, historical dancer and collaborator of Jan Fabre, and the musician Johann Johannsson, "IBM 1401 – A User’s Manual" focuses on the themes of technology, intelligence and progress, exploring, through a powerful and strongly physical dance, the relationship between what is human and what is artificial, between the sensuality of the body and the concreteness of the machine. Choreography and music, played live on laptop and a Hammond B3, reproduce this opposition. The bodies become machines and elaborate a dance that, like an electric current, has a mysterious energy, untouchable and spontaneous. Already nominated best performer by Ballettanz in 2002, and one of the 100 best performers in the world at the Ninjinsky Prize 2002 in Monaco, Erna Ómarsdóttir was selected as the best performer 2003 by The Place, London.
